Opposition: A Lux Review
“And I’m in the process of getting ready to cut out your heart, bitch”
Opposition
by Jennifer L Armentrout is the fifth and final book in the Lux series.
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH
THE SERIES AND THIS BOOK!
The Luxen
have arrived and Katy has no idea where Daemon is. Why hasn’t he come back?
When they reunite Daemon is just as distant as when they first met. Daemon has
to make a choice. Either stand with his kind or with those he loves. What will
happen when he makes his choice?
So, this
book was better than Origin and finished off the series well.
Here are my
thoughts:
·
The
Arum dining room scene with Lotho is probably in my top 3 favourite scenes of
the entire series. Katy dominated this scene. In a room full of aliens, the
human brought reason. Go figure. This is when she was at her strongest. She was
able to take a situation which really didn’t benefit the Arum and made it about
their survival. I love a shit talker.
·
I
also loved the insight into the Arum and how they were humanised. We see how
they aren’t that different from the Luxen. They’re both trying to survive, big
hatred for humans and both think the others are scum. They also have a similar male to female to male ratio which is
why Hunter has such protective instincts over Serena.
·
Ethan
and the human hating Luxens was an aspect that’s been building up to for a
while. I think Ethan hates humans because a human brought him into the world
and were also the reason, he had no childhood. It’s a bit extreme to want to
eradicate the whole human race. Like take a breath and step back. He might well
have eradicated the other origins, to cleanse the planet of the human race.
·
Luc
is fucking terrifying in this book. Nancy must have been pretty embarrassed
that she was under the thumb of an Origin she forcibly created. We now see the
full extent of Luc’s power. He’s in the room where the big decisions are being made,
eating Lunchables.
·
Which
leads me to my final point, Nancy. She felt pretty one note to me. In terms of
the ending, I wish she tried to shoot Katy sooner. It felt really rushed and
kinda wrapped up her story so we weren’t left wondering. The story had come to
a natural end and Usher was just jammed in there. Or have Luc have killed her
at some point, that was after all his big goal.
So yeah, Opposition was a great way
to end the series. I’d recommend this amazing series to any YA reader who likes
fast paced, action heavy story lines.
We aren’t
done yet by the way. Oblivion waits patiently on my TBR.
The eye explained: I tried for a
border line neon iris with a white pupil to represent the invading Luxen. The
wooden structure and the torches around it are what I imagine the passageways
of the arum city to look like. I also had to pay homage to Luke’s favourite snack,
Lunchables.
