Origin Review
I’ll
burn the world for her
Origin is
the fourth book in the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout.
WARNING!
This review contains spoilers for this book as well the series.
Origin takes
off from the ending of Opal where Katy has been captured by Daedalus. She is
left in the hands of Sergeant Dasher and Nancy Usher. They feed her full of
information and Katy can’t tell the truth from the lies. Daemon is desperate to
get her back, but how far will he go?
I loved how
the book was told from the perspective of both Daemon and Katy. We get to know
what they are hiding from each other and how they both truly feel, not just
Katy. The pair have completely separate journeys in the beginning and whilst
just having Katy’s point of view may
have had more suspense, Daemon’s view is crucial to the plot.
My favourite
part of this book was learning about the Origins and how they’re trained. It
tells us why Luc is so feared and how Daedalus won’t touch him. Not only does
he have these insane powers but he also appears to not have been successfully
molded as say Archer was supposedly. I think they’re gonna ply a big part in
Opposition (I don’t really remember what exactly goes down).
The glimpse into
the Luxen community was also really surprising. I get the holding cell/ panic
room is necessary. It just very much reminds me of Daedalus and how they
assimilate the Luxens, establishing if they’re safe to release into society.
Still though it was interesting to get a little bit of insight into the Luxen
community pre-war.
Which leads
me to Daemon, THIS BOY HAS NO PHYSICAL KRYPTONITE! Holding cell for Luxens made
by Luxens? Breaks out of it. Guess who’s the perfect chosen one for Origin
babies? This guy! I just feel like he’s been painted as a god. I love how he’s
so deeply in love with Katy but its almost becoming his defining
characteristic.
I also found
the writing style to be a bit more flowery in this book compared to the others.
Like there were lines that just felt rambly and unnecessary.
Awesomeness
shoutouts go to:
The analogy
that describes big bad Daemon as a hedgehog.
Katy not
forgetting about her mom. Also, Dee for not abandoning Katy’s mom in her time
of need.
Dawson
finally showing his emotions and pain by killing Matthew for what he did to
Dawson, Katy, Daemon and Beth.
This was
probably my least favourite book in the series just because of Daemon’s
indestructability and the rambling in places. It doesn’t take away too much
from the series and I still enjoyed reading it.
