Shadows- A Lux Novella Review
“Oh, for the love of baby humans everywhere, you’re an
idiot.”
The novella Shadows is a prequel to the Lux series by
Jennifer L Armentrout. Instead of Daemon and Katy, we see the love story of Dawson
and Beth. Shadows tell how they fell in love and the consequences of their
relationship.
So, I’m not a big insta love person. Dawson and Beth are
super cute, but love at first sight just isn’t my thing. I prefer Daemon and
Katy’s relationship where it evolved into THAT horny mushfest. Its just more appealing
than the locking eyes and falling so deeply in love.
Dawson is a really interesting character. I thought he was
the more sensible of the twins. In many ways he is, but man can he throw down!
The incident in the home cinema with Andrew for example. It showed that Dawson
had a line you didn’t cross if you valued your valued your physical wellbeing.
Shout out to the end of that passage when Dawson beats the
crap out of Andrew and threatens Ash and Adam is like “ yeah, we’re cool homie”.
I also love the amount of background we get on the Luxen
like how “human hating” is so common it gets its own term and that living
outside the colonies is considered rather a big deal. It also explains why
Dawson and Daemon and so protective of Beth and Katy, because the Luxen value
and cherish their women because only a third of the Luxen are female. Although I prefer Daemon’s relationship, I
favour Dawson’s character and storytelling.
All in all, it’s a nice addition to the series as we get a
lot more background on the Luxen community. The love was too instant for me and
I would have rather it be a full length novel than a novella for sheer
character development’s sake.
