Lux Obsidian

“My palms itched to have a close encounter of the bitch-slap kind with his face.”

Today’s review is on the first book in the Lux series Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout. It’s a paranormal adventure with some romance which I hope will grow as the series goes on.

Basically, Katy Swartz moves to West Virginia from Florida with her mom in July. Her mom couldn’t take the memories of her  husband who died of cancer that the apartment sparked. Soon Katy encounters Daemon Black a douchebag with a godlike appearance. But when she finds out him and his sister Dee who is Katy’s new best friend and are aliens her world will never be the same again.

An unsung hero in this book is definitely Lesa, a school friend of Katy’s. Katy is kind of shy and a bit awkward when she first starts her senior year which is the exact opposite of Lesa. She’s feisty, outgoing and makes her feelings clear, especially when drooling over Daemon. Lesa was closer to Katy than Carissa. The only time that Katy hangs out with some one alone and not with the Blacks is Lesa on Halloween. I think Lesa was so important in the story because in all the craziness, Lesa let Katy feel normal as they ate candy and give it out to trick or treaters. She just lightened the mood of the whole book.

One thing that I found hilarious at times was Katy’s OBSESSION with Daemon’s body. Sometimes it was steamy and well deserved I mean damn he’s hot. But other times I’m like KATY! IT’S A WHITE SHIRT! KEEP IT IN YOUR PANTS! I kinda loved it though cuz at the end of the day, Katy’s 17. She’s young and her hormones are raging and I mean Daemon is pretty lust worthy.

Dee’s and Katy’s relationship was kinda odd to me at first I guess. I love how close they get as the book goes on. I just think that the way she went about it was kinda creepy. Maybe it was cuz of how she’s really pretty and that maybe set Katy at ease, but if a random girl comes up to me when im food shopping claims she’s my neighbour and that she followed me to the store I would be freaked. Odd beginnings aside their bond is lovely and I love that Dee stands up to Deamon because she isn’t going to let him scare this friend away.

Finally, I just want to say I’m in love with Armentrout’s writing style. Its so fast paced and sassy and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of paranormal adventure.
